Diabetic pets require lots of extra care. Many animals require one or more of the following: administering a special diet, starting medications, injecting insulin, monitoring blood glucose levels, and focusing on exercise.
Researchers have been studying CBD to see if the supplement can support actively diabetic animals — including its potential ability to reduce inflammation, blood sugar, and diabetic nerve pain — or even act as a preventative for pets who are at risk.
One study, in which CBD was administered to diabetic mice, shows that the continued use of CBD eventually reduced high blood sugars (hyperglycaemia), increased natural insulin production, and lowered cholesterol levels.
Another study has proven the administration of CBD to minimize both inflammation and the neuropathic pain associated with diabetes in animals. CBD has also been shown to encourage the body’s ability to utilize glucose properly.
And for those pets who don’t have diabetes? CBD has been administered to animals who are at risk of developing diabetes, and long-term administration lowered that risk notably.
Fortify oils are beneficial for pets whose diabetic condition can be considered mild-to-moderate. For pets suffering from severe-to-extreme diabetes, or for those who have other health conditions present in addition to diabetes, Spectrum oils may be a better fit.
Our Fortify oils are made using pure CBD isolate. This CBD is isolated from every other hemp compound into a crystal, and is pharmaceutical grade. There is nothing except the CBD molecule in this product, which makes it very easy to dose and measure, and it’s perfect for common and general health concerns. However, some pets may not find it’s not quite enough to ease extreme or serious cases of anxiety, arthritis, epilepsy, cancer and other debilitating ailments or illnesses.
Our Spectrum line is made using a full spectrum oil. This means all the naturally occurring cannabinoids, terpenes, and other compounds (including trace amounts of THC / 0.3%) found in the hemp plant make their way into the final product. There is growing evidence that full spectrum oil can be more effective for some individuals and in some circumstances. This is due to what’s known as the “entourage effect,” where all the compounds work together to be more effective. This oil is best for pets with serious conditions.
The best way to target chronic conditions like diabetes is to commit to administering twice a day (every 12 hours). This ensures that CBD builds up in your pet’s system and continues to work. It’s like a snowball effect. Skipping one of your pet’s two daily doses, or skipping a day altogether, will mean that CBD is not consistently maintained and actively working.
In order to bolster the Endocannabinoid System (ECS) through long-term administration of CBD, and eventually reach a point where your pet’s ECS has come back into balance and remembered how to work for itself optimally, twice-per-day administration is imperative.
As food aids in the absorption of CBD, our team at Creating Brighter Days always likes to administer CBD oil over top of our pets’ breakfast, and again over their dinner. Food-aided administration works well whether you use dry or wet food.
Any time your pet has been diagnosed with diabetes, we recommend that you check in with your veterinarian before beginning a CBD supplementation program.
This is especially important if your pet is currently taking veterinarian-prescribed medications. While incidence of contraindication between CBD supplements and medications is rare, its is important that your vet be aware of the introduction of CBD.
